________

I ran my fingers over the keys of the piano in my room. We rarely used it in any of our music, but it was a huge part of my writing process. It had been the first thing I’d demanded to have when Ash gave me this room. I’d sent Fran out to find me one before she had headed back up to London and she’d delivered, as usual. It made it so much harder to dislike her when she pulled through with things like this, but she still hit on me way too often, and that shit just wasn’t ok.

My bed was scattered with sheets of scribbled lyrics and melodies, but nothing was making much sense. None of it would piece together. I wanted to write something amazing. Something fresh and exciting. The drive was there, but nothing else was. Instead my head kept winding back to those notes I’d made, the ones I refused to acknowledge until I was on some kind of roll. At least that way I’d be able to manipulate them into something new, rather than leave them as they currently were. Which annoyingly was looking almost like an entire song.

I depressed the notes of a random chord, then slid my fingers into another, filling the room with any sound that could overpower my thoughts and potentially inspire me. I threw my head back and closed my eyes, allowing my fingers to roam up and down the keys, playing with notes, combining them into small bursts of noise.

Nothing.

Nothing, except…

I played.

I played the notes my fingers itched to touch. I repeated the tune over and over, hammering down on each key with more force as the minutes passed and I let myself lose control. I hated that this was happening to me. I was stronger than this, so why the fuck was I allowing it to consume me so?

I slammed my fingers down on an array of keys and dropped my head in defeat. Today was not the day. I’d not achieve anything of any worth today.

I sat in the chair, breathing heavily as I accepted my fate.

Today I’d fail.

A knock at my door pulled my attention and I twisted around to face my best friend as his head poked through the small gap he had made.

“We’re heading out, wanna come?” he asked.

“Is she going with you?” I asked. I did want to go out, but I didn’t want to spend the morning with her. Especially in this mood. If she was going to become a part of my life due to her connection with my guys then I’d have to get on board, but not today. Today I’d put no pressure on myself to act like she didn’t bother me.

“Yeah, she is.” Ash said, opening the door further and stepping into the room.

“I’ll pass then.” I said bitterly and turned my back on him.

“Oh come on E, don’t be like that.”

“Like what?” I asked quietly, too fed up with how my day was going to continue snapping at him.
